The Greater Lafayette Area offers many opportunities for families to have fun for free! As the mother of three kids, I am always looking for fun, safe and free activities. The following are a few of our favorites.
1) Columbian Park and Zoo
Enjoy and enormous amount of playground equipment divided into age appropriate play areas, a sand play area, pond and train rides. The zoo has many different attractions that include animals from otters to monkeys, a goat petting area, and an interactive fountain area. Bring an extra pair of clothes on a hot day for the little ones; they love to play in the water!
2) Happy Hollow Park
Happy Hollow Park is approximately 81 acres in size with 1 mile of paved Trolley Line Trail (hiking) and approximately 1 mile of Footpaths (Salisbury St., Garden, and Rose Street Trails). The park contains 2 accessible playgrounds for ages 2-5 and 5-12, an open turf area and 5 picnic areas that can be reserved.Happy Hollow Park Website
3) Fountains at Purdue
Although it’s not intended as a children’s attraction, kids have a great time playing in the water!
4) Clegg Garden
Enjoy the afternoon hiking!
5) Free Indoor Swimming
Friday evenings 6:30pm – 9:30 pm you can swim for free at Faith Community Center.
This is a great activity during winter or Fridays with yucky weather.
